Mayan Priest Eduardo Colunga

The Mayan wedding is considered a link to the cosmos. The authentic Mayan ceremony, following the actual traditions used by the Maya from the Yucatan Peninsula,

The Mayan Wedding Ritual is based in the Maya's connection with the universe and their gods, which is described in their sacred book the Popol Vuh, the ceremony brings the couple to the four cardinal points (north, south, east and west) to unite them to the feminine Mother Earth and the masculine Cosmic Energy, symbolized by a central sacred candle.

Flowers mark four points and there is traditional offerings to the Gods - corn, beans, rice, fruit – to represent the gifts of prosperity and fertility. North is represented by red flowers, East with yellow, South with purple, and West with white. Candles are located on the altar on the four cardinal points -- north, south, east and west – to symbolize the presence of the four Mayan cosmos gods. The area is cleansed at the four cardinal points by the Shaman with the sacred smoke from the Copal tree and the blowing of the ritual conch shell horn.

Family and friends circle around and they celebrate the union of the bride and groom by presenting gifts of flowers, music, food and drink.

The bride and groom wear simple natural clothing of white or off white. They wear no shoes so they can absorb the energy of the ceremony.

It is suggested that family and guests wear natural cloth clothing in white or cream, preferably barefoot, so they can share in the spiritual energy created by the ceremony.

Minister Donna Carey

I am a Reiki Master and Sound Healer who has been doing spiritual wedding ceremonies on the beaches and jungles of the Riviera Maya for 8 years now, mostly in English.  A lifelong student of religions and spirituality, I aim to customize the ceremonies to the bride and groom's needs and desires.

I was raised Catholic and was a member of the Vestry in the Episcopal Church before I became a minister in the Universal Life Church.  I have studied Hinduism, Buddhism and the Kabbalah as well as Indigenous traditions.

Sometimes, in the ceremonies, we incorporate elements from many spiritual traditions as well as cultural traditions such as the Irish hand binding ceremony or Navajo prayers.  I really like to work with the couple to develop the ceremony.  After all, it is their wedding!

I prefer to officiate small weddings as they tend to be much more intimate and in line with what I have to offer.

Pastor Don Enrique

We can offer Vow Renewal Ceremonies, married couples who have been married for 5,10, 20, 30, or more years.

Bilingual ceremonies, English and Spanish.

Non Religious ceremonies, which will only focus on love, friendship, and commitment.

Since there has been no Rabbi available in the area for a long time now, we have prepared a ceremony which has been accepted in some cases; only one Jewish couple has refused so far, and was very happy with what we offered. The Ketubah Reading, The Blessing God said to Moses, the Conversion of the Date to the day and month of the Shabbat, and of course the Breaking of the Glass.

Our favorite of course is the religious ceremony, we let the bride choose the Scripture readings she prefers, and invite family or friends to participate in additional readings if they so wish. The ceremony lasts around 15 or 20 minutes.

The couple may write their own vows if they wish of course.
